☀️ LES IDÉES DU JOUR

🇬🇧 DAY 3 – SAINT-MALO

Tuesday 15 September 2026

🌊 A day in Saint-Malo

Today, I suggest spending the day discovering Saint-Malo, the famous Corsair City, with its impressive ramparts, old town, beaches and sea views.

🚗 From Gîte La Pamphilienne

Saint-Malo is approximately 57 km from Courtils, around 50–60 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

Suggested departure: 8:45 am

☀️ Today’s weather

Courtils: around 21°C, rather cloudy and windy, with no significant rain expected.

Saint-Malo: around 20°C, mainly cloudy, with a mild temperature. A light jacket is recommended, especially on the ramparts because of the wind.

🏰 Morning – Discover the old city

10:00 am – Enter Saint-Malo Intra-Muros

Start at Porte Saint-Vincent, then walk through the historic streets towards the cathedral.

The main highlight is the ramparts, which form a complete circuit around the old city and offer magnificent views over the sea, the beaches and the surrounding islands.

After lunch, continue towards Plage du Môle and the seafront.

Then walk along the waterfront towards Plage du Sillon.

🏰 Fort National

The Fort National is one of Saint-Malo’s best-known landmarks. It can be visited when access is possible according to the tide. During the current period, it is scheduled to open until 20 September, depending on tide times.

For 15 September, the tides at Saint-Malo are approximately:

  • High tide: 10:25 – coefficient 63
  • Low tide: 17:06 – coefficient 59
  • High tide: 22:41 – coefficient 56

☕ 4:00 pm – Free time

Allow them some free time to:

  • have a coffee or Breton crêpe;
  • browse the shops;
  • walk along the beach;
  • take photographs from the ramparts;
  • visit the small streets around Intra-Muros.

Optional guided tour

There is a “Corsair City” guided tour organised by the Saint-Malo Tourist Office on Tuesdays in September at 2:30 pm. It lasts about 1½ hours and costs €10 per adult.

5:30 pm – Last walk

I recommend finishing the day with another short walk on the ramparts around Tour Bidouane and Bastion de la Hollande.

The views over the sea are particularly beautiful from this side of the city.
